La Selva Lodge



sits high on a lake called Garzacocha, a few kilometers north of the Napo river. It is 90 km east of Coca and it takes around 3 hours to reach the trail leading to the lodge by motorized boat and then after a short hike it is a half hour paddle in a small dugout canoe to the tourist complex. This lodge consists of 16 rustic double cabins with screened windows and private bathrooms with running water. There is no electricity provided and kerosene lanterns are used for lighting. The main building offers you a dining room, where international and local food is served. This lodge was one of the first one to operate in that area and from the beginning ecologically sound tourism was introduced. The complex also includes a small biological field research station, mostly used by visiting foreign scientists and a butterfly breeding facility.

Tour programs:


The tours start in Coca and end there again. Transport in motorized boats from Coca to the lodge and back (3 hours one-way), accommodations and meals at the lodge, native guides and interpreters are included in the package.

Note:  The days can be arranged to your liking but there will be an extra charge for the motor boat trip unless they have something scheduled already or for a group of 5 or more persons, there won't be an additional cost.


Activities include guided hikes through the jungle to get to know the rich fauna and flora of a primary rainforest, early morning canoe trip on the lake and small rivers to observe birds and other animals, swims in the lake, visit of the butterfly farm and biology field station, climbing the 35 m high observation tower to observe the life in the forest trees canopy, which otherwise could not be seen and many other activities.


Note:  This lodge has received foreign rewards for their responsible way of organizing ecological tours.
