Ecuador tries to protect its diverse fauna and flora but it is not easy for a poor country to do that.

Dry Tropical Forests

Dry tropical forests are found on the coast and only a few pockets of primary forests are left.
Ceibo Trees are the dominant trees in that ecosystem.

In the dry season,  cotton from the fruits are used for making mattresses.
Often those trees are the only ones left standing in cleared areas.
In the rainy season the forest is green and lush.
In the dry season, the trees lose their leaves and everything turns dry and brown.
Vines and epiphytes are part of this ecosystem.
Some of the larger vines or air roots shown here.
Bromeliads and creepers using the stems.
Some trees reach huge dimensions and use butressed roots for support.
  Butterflies make their homes here.
Some flowers bloom in the dry season.
Termites and ants live in this ecological habitat

In Ecuador the forest was under attack from the beginning of civilazation and cut down to establish fields.
