Ecuador tries to protect its diverse fauna and flora but it is not easy for a poor country to do that.

 





 

Mangroves on the Coast  




 

Mangroves grow where salt water meets sweet water
Leaf cover provides habitats for birds


Egrets visit mangroves to look for food
The roots of the mangroves are survive in salty waters




Here the water level of the sea is clearly seen fro high to low tide
Shrimp farming is nowadays the biggest threat to mangroves
To establish the pools, the trees are cut down and everything gets bulldozed
