 Biological Facts

Sobralia
consists of some 100 species being found in Central and South America. In Ecuador they grow
from sea level to the higher altitudes in the Andes. They are terrestrial with long reedlike stems and large strongly veined leaves and grow in the open. They are often seen along major roads leading down the mountains. Their flowers are large and showy but last only one day (or two days at most) but are being produced subsequently on the same plant.
