Flowers of  Arid Lowlands

This Arid Zone is the largest area in the Galapagos and comprises the regions in the lowlands as one leaves the coastal zone and moves inward. Many of the plants drop their leaves in the dry season and large stretches of the region look dead or dying. But actually the plants wait for the rains to begin to shoot out green leaves quickly, set flowers and fruit. This is the region where you can find those large opuntia cacti trees.
