View to Elizabeth Bay from
Sierra Negra.
The bay is on the western side of the isthmus formed by two volcanoes.
Red mangroves reach their tallest stands in this bay.Apart from the red, you can find also black and white mangroves
there.
This sheltered inside bay is completely surrounded by
mangroves and a great habitat for many animals.
A spotted eagle ray and Galapagos penguin swim in the waters of
the bay.
This is one of the best places to see
marine turtles.The Pacific Green Sea Turtle nests in the Galapagos but is not
endemic to the isles. It can be found all along the Pacific coasts of
Central and South America.Tagged animals from
Galapagos were found in Costa Rica but they always
seem to come back to the beach where they hatched.
Mangroves provides habitat for pelicans and other sea birds and for the
Hawksbill Turtles which are smaller and more reddish in appearance.
Sea Lions,
blue-footed boobies and cormorants, all share the same
tiny rock at the
entrance to Elizabeth Bay.
