A dry tropical vegetation with typical plants of the coastal zone covers
the land. Tall cacti like the prickly pear and candelabra dominate the
scene.
Candelabra Cactus is present on all larger islands and endemic.
It can reach up to 7m and from its fruits a refreshing juice can be
squeezed.
Small water pools dot the region.
A small lava tube extends into the Pacific
ocean. Those tubes of various sizes are
leftovers from lava flows, where the outside cooled earlier and still
flowing hot lava left behind the empty chambers.

The vegetation around the wetlands are green in comparison to the one
surrounding the outlook.
Tournefortia flowers and fruits which are eaten by mockingbirds and some
finches.
This colorful member of the grasshopper family is the most abundant on the isles and
sometimes explode in large numbers.

This wall was erected by convicts in the first
half of this century when that area served as a penal colony.
Many prisioners died during the work and the construction earned its
infamous name Wall of Tears or Muro de las Lagrimas.
