Larger waves hit the beach of La Loberia, one of
many along the coasts of San Cristobal island. This one is
located a few minutes outside of Puerto Baquerizo, passing the
airport.
Succulent and salt resistant plants
grow along the sandy ocean beach. Blue-footed boobyresting on rocks after diving for fish.
Sea Lions frequent this beach and from
that fact it got its name, La Loberia or Place of
Sea Lions. A large bull sitting on a rock, lazily shows off his muscles
and leaves no doubt,
who's the boss here.
Marine iguanas and lava lizards also frequent
this shore.
Dry coastal and lowland vegetation stretch from
the shore inland up the hills, where it changes into a more
luxuriant growth..
Yellow warblers frequent the shrubs along the
beach and are found throughout the archipelago. It is the only yellow
bird in the islands and therefore easily seen and identified.
It is very difficult
to distinguish between the various species of Darwin finches. However it
is easy enough to know if it is male or female as the males, as shown
here are always black The females
in contrast are grayish streaked
and lack the intensive black.
Many sites on the islands are often deserted and
invite to personal reflections of one's being as does sunlight off the Pacific waters.
