The Botanical Garden of Quito is located in the and
large and popular Carolina Park.
From all the different
ecosystems of the country representative plants are shown. Here the
rare Frailejon plant or Espelitia from the high paramo regions of
the northern Andes are exhibited.
Trees are also planted
in the garden. To the left, the only coniferous tree specie of the
country, the Podocarpus from the southern Andes can be admired. The
pumachaqui is another native tree found in various regions of the
mountains.
Bromeliads are
another plant family found throughout Ecuador, from the Andes
down to the tropical regions.
Two more beautiful
species of bromeliads found in the more tropical regions.
Inside the
greenhouses a cloudforest is represented by various
representative plants of this species rich ecosystem.
A large part inside the
greenhouses is dedicated to the orchids with many species shown.
Two more of those
beautiful flowers admired worldwide by flower lovers.
Sections with orchids
dominate the inside part of the gardens.
Outside trails and small
ponds complement the gardens.
