Malecon 2000 is a huge project undertaking by the
Municipality of Guayaquil to improve its waterfront
along the River Guayas.
Starting at the foot of Las Peñas, the hill with the painted
houses, it runs several kilometers along the river, blending in new
architectural buildings with old colonial houses.

Restaurants, Food marts
and an IMAX theater are features of the malecon.
A small botanical garden with tropical
flowers grace parts of the walk.
The famous clock
tower and an old sailing ship are some more of the attractions
awaiting visitors.
Areas to rest and
sit are provided throughout the boardwalk.
Monuments are very
popular in Ecuador and are not to be missed from the Malecon.
Artists,
working in the public, give the whole complex
life and entertainment to the visitors
