This famous Equator Line
Monument, located 20 km north of Quito is
Ecuador's most visited
tourist attraction. It was built to conmemorate 200 years of the arrival
of the French Geodesic mission.
The most important feature is the pyramid shaped
monument with outside viewing balcony and
small ethnic museum inside. The yellow line,
assumedly representing the equator, starts at its base.
Apart from that, this modern tourist complex consists of other
pavillions housing exhibitions,
a post office, where you can get the famous Mitad del Mundo stamp,
souvenir shops and restaurants.
