Pululahua Geo-botanical
Reserve
La Reserva Geobotanica Pululahua
(click for map) was
created on January 28th, 1966 and was therefore the first region on
mainland Ecuador to get protected by law. The purpose is to preserve for future generations the volcanic-geological aspect of
the crater and the various biological habitats with the rich and varied flora and
fauna. Another important aspect is scientific research concerning the volcanic

Surrounding Attractions:
In the vicinity of the nature reserve are a few tourist attractions which can be
easily visited and are included in some of our tour programs.
Mitad del Mundo
Monument built to commemorate the measuring of the Equator Line by a team of
French scientists in 1760. Apart from the famous line, there are a small ethnic museum
inside the pyramid shaped building, other pavilions and restaurants
and souvenir shops.
Pucara de Rumicucho
Old Inca ruins north of San Antonio
and east of the crater. Excavations revealed that this complex was once an
important strategic military fortress, which also was used for religious
ceremonies. There also existed a large settlement of people around the fortress.
