B7 QUILOTOA Quilotoa is a crater lake located 80 km south of Quito in the Western Cordillera at an altitude of 3850m. The region is a beautiful mountain area, famous for its colorful Indian population, who farm right up the mountain tops and kept their traditional way of life to this time. That region offers great high altitude biking with breathtaking views along the rides. B7 : 2 Days / 1 Night Day 1 In the morning we start out by jeep from Quito and head to Zumbahua, a small village, located high in the mountains, 57 km west from Latacunga on the main road leading to the coast. It will take us 4 1/2 hours to get there and after lunch you begin biking the 14km of dirt road to the crater lake of Quilotoa. After visiting the surroundings and hiking down to the lake, we spend the night there. Day 2 After breakfast in the morning we start biking towards Chugchilan, a small village 15 km north of Quilotoa and continue on to Sigchos, a further 23km on a bad dirt road. On this track in this remote area you are able to feel the solitude of the area and its people. In Sigchos we have lunch and after that we drive back to Quito by jeep where we arrive after another 5-hour drive.
