 M4 ILINIZAS These 2 peaks, Iliniza Sur at 5263m and Iliniza Norte at 5126m, are located in the Eastern Cordilleras 55 km SW of Quito and are part of the Ilinizas Nature Reserve. The northern peak is the majority of the year without snow and easy to ascend with the exception of the few times when the rocks are covered with ice and therefore slippery. However, the southern peak needs very good technical climbing ability because of steep ice fields, seracs and loose rocks. M4a : 2 days / 1 night ( Iliniza Sur ) Day 1 At 9 a.m. we leave from the Hotel Parque Italia and head south on the Pan American Highway towards the Ilinizas. At noon we arrive at the parking area called La Virgen. There we have lunch and then make our way up to the refuge, where we arrive around 4 p.m. After dinner at 6 p.m. we rest and sleep. Day 2 After breakfast we start our climb at 3 a.m. and reach the summit at about daybreak. After spending time on top we descend back to the refuge and then to the car park. We arrive in Quito in the middle of afternoon.
