M6
ANTISANA
At 5705m it is the fourth highest mountain in Ecuador,
located in the Eastern Cordillera 55 km east of Quito. The broad summit contains
four distinct separate peaks, which are part of the crater rim. The ascent is technically difficult and therefore
suited only to climbers with sufficient mountaineering experience.
M6a : 2 days / 1 night
( Central Peak )
Day 1
We leave Quito
at 9 a.m. and head east to the village of Pintag. There we follow the road up
the paramo and pass through the private property of a huge hacienda to the foot
of Antisana. We put up our tents in the base camp and after dinner try to rest.
Day 2
After a midnight breakfast our ascent
begins at 1 a.m. and we reach the summit around daybreak. It may be necessary to
do a bivouac near the summit so as to cross the bridge over the last crevasse.
The descent to base camp takes 3 hours and then we return to Quito.
