A5 RAINFOREST (7 days) In this 7-day roundtrip we get to know the Amazon rainforest regions, the most bio-diverse ecosystem in the world. Starting in Quito we drive into the Amazon where we spend 2 days in an Amazon Lodge surrounded by a primary rainforest. On hikes in forest we get to know the huge trees, medicinal plants and other amazing flora of the forest. Animals to be seen are a large variety of birds, caimans, monkeys and innumerous insects including large and colorful butterflies, praying mantis, etc... Day 1 Arrival at Quito airport and transfer to hotel in Quito. Depending on your arrival time, a visit to the old colonial center or another attraction in Quito are scheduled. Day 2 We start our trip by leaving Quito and driving east, moving up the Eastern Cordilleras where after 2 hours we reach the pass at 4000m which leads into the Amazon basin. Moving down the steep flanks of the Andes, we reach Baeza where we stop for lunch. Afterwards we continue on to Archidona where we visit the enormous caves there. Afterwards passing Tena we reach finally our destination Puerto Misahualli, where we take a well deserved swim in the clear waters of the river. At the sandy beach there also wild capuchin monkeys are encountered, which got used to human beings and come up close. We spend the night and get ready for tomorrow's jungle adventure. Day 3 In the morning after breakfast we leave by motorized canoe for the lodge, which is located down the river Napo. There after lunch we explore for the first time a primary rainforest with its bountiful fauna and flora. The native guides give us explanations about the medicinal and other uses of the plants. Afterwards we visit a native family, where we get to know their daily life in the rainforest. At night we undertake a short hike into the forest to experience and observe nocturnal animals. Day 4 Early in the morning we head to a small river for bird watching, where kingfishers, carafalcon and many more birds can be seen. We return then for breakfast to the lodge and afterwards explore another part of the rainforest. More plants will be introduced to our attention. After a late lunch at the lodge, we return to Misahualli . Day 5 In the morning we leave Puerto Misahualli and head south to Puyo, where we stop for lunch. Afterwards we start moving up the Andes mountains again through the Pastaza valley. The higher we get the narrower the valley becomes and many waterfalls dot the landscape. Some of the most interesting ones, like the Pailon del Diablo in Rio Verde, we will visit before arriving in Baņos, where we spend the night. Day 6 In the morning we visit the beautiful zoo where we can observe animals, which probably we did not see in the rainforest, like jaguar, ocelots and various species of monkeys. In the afternoon we head back to Quito passing the Avenue of the Volcanoes, where on a clear day many volcanic peaks can be seen. Day 7 Depending on your departure time, a visit to the old colonial center or to another sightseeing attraction in Quito are scheduled. Transfer to the airport and return to your country.
