T11 IMBABURA
The province of Imbabura is known as the lake
district as it boasts of many of those. But apart from them it has a few mountains
over 4500m and is an ideal country for hiking. Our hikes are concentrated
around Imbabura, Mojanda and Cuicocha. There are easy hikes and
therefore ideal for people who want to enjoy hiking in a higher altitude
or for anyone who wants to check out his physical condition and getting acclimatized
before attempting higher peaks.
T11a : 1 day
Day 1
We leave Quito at 6 a.m. and drive north on the Pan-American highway towards
Otavalo. Depending, which hike you like to do, either Cuicocha, Mojanda or
Imbabura, we continue on to that destination. the hikes take several hours
and late afternoon we drive back to Quito.

T11b:
2 days / 1 night
Day 1 same
as Day 1 above, with the choice of climbing Cuicocha or Imbabura, but
instead of returning to Quito we stay overnight near Otavalo or Ibarra.
Day 2 After breakfast we
drive up to Mojanda, a mountainous Lake area. We start then hiking down to
the small town of Tabacundo, where our jeep awaits us again. Our hike is
through beautiful Paramo regions with beautiful views of Cayambe the
valley below. From Tabacundo we head back to Quito, where we arrive later
in the afternoon.

T11c : 3 days / 2 nights
Day 1
We Quito at 6 a.m. and drive north to Ibarra and then on to
a small community called La Esperanza where we arrive at around 9 a.m. We,
then start our climb and reach the top in 3 hours by way of an
well-trodden path. We spend as much time as we want up there having lunch
and enjoying the views. After a 2- hour descent we drive to the Cuicocha
crater lake, where we spend the next two nights.
Day 2
Early in the morning we start on our hike around
this beautiful lake. The whole excursions takes between 5 to 6 hours and
offers us excellent views.
Day 3 After breakfast we
drive up to Mojanda, a mountainous Lake area. We start then hiking down to
the small town of Tabacundo, where our jeep awaits us again. Our hike is
through beautiful Paramo regions with beautiful views of Cayambe the
valley below. From Tabacundo we head back to Quito, where we arrive later
in the afternoon.
